The collection contains both personal and professional papers documenting the adult life of David L. Anderson. It includes clippings, correspondence, memoranda, notes, class syllabi, students' papers and exams, lecture outlines, drafts and final copies of books and articles, receipts and invoices, grant applications, sermons, Navy service papers, and photographs. Papers chronicle Anderson's undergraduate and graduate years at Harvard University (1937-1950), his WWII service as a physicist at Los Alamos and in the U.S. Navy, his contributions to Oberlin College (1948-1984) and to the wider academic community, his work as an Episcopal priest largely at Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin, and his personal and family life. Anderson's professional and personal interests in science, the history of science, education, religion, and ethics add richness to the collection.

Anderson (b. 1919) was a Navy serviceman and scientist at Los Alamos, New Mexico during and after WWII (1943-1946), an Oberlin College physics professor (1948-1984) and departmental chair (1963-1972), and an Episcopal priest (ordained in 1956).
